Founded in 1987 in Sainte-Julie, Labplas is a Quebec manufacturer of sterile sampling bags used in the agri-food, environmental, veterinary, pharmaceutical and research sectors. Its products are distributed in more than 60 countries. Growing family SME, Labplas is looking for an engineering manager to ensure the reliability of its production equipment and develop its culture of continuous improvement.

Your challenges

Reporting directly to the operations director, you will ensure the reliability of our production equipment while advancing our culture of continuous improvement.

Management of engineering & maintenance teams

• Supervise, mobilize and develop the team of engineers as well as the maintenance team

• Plan and prioritize engineering projects and maintenance interventions according to production needs

• Define the roles, work standards and performance objectives of the team

• Foster the development of technical skills and the transfer of knowledge within teams

• Manage engineering research and development activities

Reliability and improvement of production equipment

• Ensure the reliability, availability and performance of production equipment

• Establish and follow a preventive and predictive maintenance program

• Manage improvement projects, modification and upgrade of equipment

• Diagnose recurring issues and implement sustainable solutions to reduce breakage and downtime

• Collaborate with production to anticipate equipment capacity and reliability needs

Continuous improvement & working methods

• Analyze and optimize working methods to ensure an efficient production flow

• Review the layout of lines and workstations to reduce travel and wasted time

• Deploy lean manufacturing tools (5S, kaizen, VSM, SMED, etc.) to improve the efficiency of operations

• Monitor the testing of new materials and new modules in production.

• Carry out time and motion studies and propose optimized work standards

• Identify bottlenecks and sources of waste in the production flow

• Train and coach production and maintenance teams in lean tools and mindset

• Monitor performance indicators (OEE, downtime, costs maintenance, etc.) and adjust action plans accordingly

• Contribute to investment projects in equipment, capacity and production rearrangement

Your profile

• University training in mechanical engineering, industrial engineering or related field

• 7 to 10 years relevant experience in engineering and maintenance in a manufacturing environment, including a team management role

• Concrete experience in continuous improvement, working methods and layout of production lines (5S, kaizen, SMED, VSM, time and movement study)

• Good understanding of production equipment and industrial reliability principles

• Mobilizing leadership, collaborative approach and strong presence field

• Ability to manage several projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment

• Good communication, analysis and problem-solving skills

• Proficiency in French and English, oral and written. (The candidate will be required to work daily with references only available in English during their research. In addition, the candidate will be required to present at various international exhibitions and to meet new international suppliers or manufacturers occasionally)
